Shrinkage Control in Finishing

Suppose a single jersey fabric have actual dia 70 inch, actual GSM 170, Length shrinkage is -10% and width shrinkage is -3%, but required dia 72inch, required GSM 180, Length shrinkage below -5%.

1st we increased width by 2%.

So now actual dia= [(70×2)÷100]+ 70 = 71.4inch

And GSM reduce of the fabric=[(170÷70) ×1.4] =3.4, now actual GSM= (170-3.4) = 166.6

As our actual GSM is less than required GSM, so we have to over feed the fabric about 8% in compacting m/c.

So GSM increased =(166.6×8)/100 = 13.33. So after compact GSM of the fabric = 166.6+ 13.33= 179.93.

So we get final GSM 180, Dia 71.4, Length shrinkage -2%, and width Shrinkage – 3%.

  1. In case of single jersey three samples are out of acceptable range,
  2. In case of (1x1) Rib two sample are out of acceptable range,
  3. In case of (2x2) Rib two sample are out of acceptable range,
  4. In case of Slub S/j 5 Sample are out of acceptable range,
  5. In case of Piqua two sample are out of acceptable range
  6. Inter lock three samples are out of acceptable range.

  1. In case of single jersey two sample are out of acceptable range,
  2. In case of (1x1) Rib two sample are out of acceptable range,
  3. In case of (2x2) Rib no sample is out of acceptable range,
  4. In case of Slub S/j one Sample is out of acceptable range,
  5. In case of Piqua no sample is out of acceptable range
  6. Inter lock no sample is out of acceptable range.
