AN OVERVIEW OF TENSORAPID TEST

INTRODUCTION TO UTR4

Breaking strength, elongation, elastic modulus, resistance abrasion etc are some important factors which will represent the performance of the yarn during actual use and the further processing. Strength testing is broadly classified into two methods:
  1. Single yarn strength testing
  2. Skein or lea strength testing

During routine testing, both the breaking load and extension of yarn at break are usually recorded for assessing in yarn quality. Most of the instruments record the load-elongation diagram also. Various parameters such as initial modulus, the yield point, the tenacity or elongation at any stress or strain, breaking load, breaking extension etc can be obtained from the load-extension diagram.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR TENSORAPID TEST
  1. A measurement must be performed according the CRE principle
  2. Testing speed must be exactly 5 m/min.
  3. The gauge length or the clamp to clamp distance should be 50 mm.
  4. The pretension should be 0.5 cn / tex.
MAIN PARTS OF TENSORAPID:

1) TEST UNIT

(i) Clamping device 0.01- 500 N
It is recommended for staple fibre yarns, filament yarns (elastomeric yarn on request), ply yarn and the fibre assemblies.

(ii) Clamping device 1500 N
It is recommended for the staple fibre yarns and filament yarns coarser than 20 tex, ply yarns, technical yarns, skeins and fabric strips.

(iii) Plate tensioner & Rolling-off arrangement
Clamping device 500 N and rolling-off arrangement for the transportation of the yarn between the individual tests.

2) YARN CHANGER:
Device for the automatic changing of the yarn taken from up to the 40 packages; manual operation for single measurements is possible.

3) PACKAGE TRUNK:
Package trunk for creeling and transporting of up to 24 yarn packages (with separate extension set for up to 40 yarn packages).

4) PACKAGE CREEL/TENSIONER CARRIER:
Creel with tensioner carrier for creeling up to 40 yarn packages. For measurements on packages where yarn is taken directly from the package trunks without thread tensionsers, the tensioner carriers are also attached.

5) OPERATING UNIT
  • Measurement of strength and elongation of a extensive range of yarns and fabrics.
  • Collection, evaluation and storage of measurements and diagrams.
  • Automatic check of all the measured values.
  • Yarn classification based on the uster statistics.
  • Preparation of long-term reports
  • Clamp position may be of two types
1. Horizontal
2. Vertical

Ø With horizontal position of clamps continuously adjustable between 200 and 1000 mm.
Ø With vertical position of clamps continuously adjustable between 100 and 1000 mm.

FACTORS INFLUENCING THE TEST RESULTS
There are some factors that can influence test results.
  • Ambient conditions in laboratory (R.H% & temp.)
  • Operator and sampling procedures
  • Instrument maintenance
  • Natural variation with Cotton
DO’S AND DON’TS
  • Do not place the monitor where sunlight or bright room light will fall directly on the screen.
  • When necessary, clean the monitor cabinet with a damp cloth.
  • Do not use alcohol or ammonia based products.
  • Do the daily and weekly maintenance regularly.
  • Don’t touch the UTR4 case when the test is under process.
  • In any accident just push the emergency button.
  • Always use the safety cover during testing.
